Entered another contest at school.....

but this time as a team with 2 other classmates. Our theme was spring. Examples were april showers, may flowers, mother's day etc.... Whoever wins gets their display put in the front window of the school. We decided on Mothers Day. We decided to turn the hair into a basket. I did the weaving and the makeup. One team mate did the handle and flowers. The last team mate worked on the display. We will know the results tomorrow.

The first group of pictures is my part of the design. The second group of pictures is our whole display.

Mean Moms

I  came across this poem a few years ago. I don't the author but I absolutely love this poem.

My Mean Mother...

Someday when my children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates a parent, I will tell them, as my Mean Mom told me: I loved you enough to ask where you were going, with whom, and what time you would be home.

I loved you enough to be silent and let you discover that your new best friend was a creep.

I loved you enough to make you go pay for the bubble gum you had taken and tell the clerk, "I stole this yesterday and want to pay for it."

I loved you enough to stand over you for two hours while you cleaned your room, a job that should have taken 15 minutes.

I loved you enough to let you see anger, disappointment, and tears in my eyes. Children must learn that their parents aren't perfect.

I loved you enough to let you assume the responsibility for your actions even when the penalties were so harsh they almost broke my heart.

But most of all, I loved you enough...to say NO when I knew you would hate me for it.

Those were the most difficult battles of all. I'm glad I won them, because in the end you won, too. And someday when your children are old enough to understand the logic that motivates parents, you will tell them.

Was your Mom mean? I know mine was. We had the meanest mother in the while world! While other kids ate candy for breakfast, we had to have cereal, eggs, and toast. When others had a Pepsi and a Twinkie for lunch, we had to eat sandwiches. And you can guess our mother fixed us a dinner that was different from what other kids had, too.

Mother insisted on knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were convicts in a prison. She had to know who our friends were, and what we were doing with them. She insisted that if we said we would be gone for an hour, we would be gone for an hour or less...

We were ashamed to admit it, but she had the nerve to break the Child Labor Laws by making us work. We had to wash the dishes, make the beds, learn to cook, vacuum the floor, do laundry, empty the trash, and all sorts of cruel jobs. I think she would lie awake at night thinking of more things for us to do.

She always insisted on us telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. By the time we were teenagers, she could read our minds and had eyes in the back of her head. Then, life was really tough!

Mother wouldn't let our friends just honk the horn when they drove up. The had to come up to the door so she could meet them. While everyone else could date when they were 12 or 13, we had to wait until we were 16.

Because of our mother, we missed out on lots of things other kids experienced. None of us have ever been caught shoplifting, vandalizing other's property, or ever arrested for any crime. It was all her fault!

Now that we have left home, we are all educated, honest adults. We are doing our best to be mean parents just like Mom was.

I think that is what's wrong with the world today. It just doesn't have enough mean moms!

Recovery going well & Book Review

My recovery is going well. I still have about 3 1/2 weeks left of my restrictions but no issues. The doctor said everything went well and no complications at all.

Now on to my book review. I read a book last year called "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. (click on author to go to his page).  This is a wonderful book to read. I loved the way he wrote the book from a different point of view. Here is a copy from his site on what the book is about.

   The Book Thief
Knopf Books | Hardcover | 978-0-375-83100-3 | March 2006 | $16.95
Knopf Books | Paperback | 978-0-375-84220-7 | September 2007 | $11.99
Knopf Books | Unabridged Compact Disc | 978-0-739-33727-1 | September 2006 | $51.00
About the Book:
It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery. . . .

Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist–books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau.
This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.

The Point of view the story is told in is Death. Death is telling you the story of this little girl and her encounter's. If you get a chance to read this book please do. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

New hair design, Kids and surgery.

Well once again I haven't posted for awhile. School , kids and life are keeping me busy. I'm doing great at school and have decided to once again enter another updo contest. I won't know the results till next week and I didn't even enter to win. I just wanted to challenge myself and here are photo's of my entry.

The kids are doing great and really enjoyed Christmas. Sis is getting straight A's in school and is reading above her level (WOOOOHOOO! Way to go sis).  Bubby is struggling in school this year but says he is trying to get caught up. I know he can do it and he will. Instead of buying school photo's (no money to buy) I took the kids to Gettysburg  around Little Round Top and Devil's Den. These are the photo's we decided to use for the fall pictures.  I just wish they weren't so dark.

I have also been trying to get stuff ready for a 1 to 2 night hospital stay stating Dec. 28th.. I am having surgery and will be recovering for 6 weeks.  I'm having a total abdominal hysterectomy. The doctor is also gonna clean up scar tissue build up from previous surgeries. Hopefully this will end most of my pain.

I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
